Hello! Welcome to Judy Compton's Classroom
I am delighted to be your child's first grade teacher. I have been teaching for 24 years -- five years in kindergarten and and nineteen years in first grade. I received a Master's degree in literacy in 2005 and am a Montana Writing Project fellow.
In my classroom, your child will be working in a variety of groups, building social skills as well as solving problems together. Small center groups, partner-writing, individual, and whole-group instruction are incorporated throughout the day.
I believe in a balance between phonemic awareness/phonics-based skill instruction and a whole-language approach to teaching reading and writing. Math instruction includes number concepts, addition, subtraction, place value, money, time, and fractions.
I highly encourage parents to get involved in the classroom -- the research consistently shows that when parents get involved, students are successful.
