Brendan Brown—Special Education Director
Welcome! I am very excited for my first year as the Hellgate Special Education Director. For the past five years, I have worked as a special education teacher at Hellgate Middle School. Throughout my years as an educator, I have worked tirelessly to ensure that all students who I work with succeed. It has been my personal goal for every student to reach their full potential, regardless of what strengths and weaknesses they may have. I look forward to replicating that same goal for our district wide special education programs.
Current Special Education Programs
Special Education— Hellgate Elementary School District offers a comprehensive program of special services to provide a learning environment which supports each child in reaching his or her maximum potential to become a productive member of society. Our programs focus on the individual goals developed per the IEP team, in order to ensure student engagement, relationship building, creative thinking, and academic success.
Life Skills Program—(K-8)
This program is designed for students whose needs may include replacement curriculum. Additionally, students participating in this program are offered small group and or 1:1 instruction based on their functional skills. Students participating in this program are supported by a certified special education teacher and paraprofessionals. Students are included and supported in the general education setting as appropriate, based on the goals and objectives included in their Individualized Education Program.
Resource Room (K-8)
This program is designated for students with an Individualized Education Program who benefit from the general education curriculum through specialized and small group instruction in specific academic areas identified by the IEP team.
