Special Education
Hellgate Elementary provides a full range of special education and related services that enable all disabled students to obtain a free appropriate public education. A major component of this program involves the screening of all children from birth through 8th grade who reside within the district boundaries. These screenings are conducted in order to identify children with disabilities or those who may be at risk of developing learning problems when they enter school. Screening for vision, hearing, health, speech and language, cognitive learning, fine and gross motor skills, academic growth and social and emotional development are routinely conducted. It is also the parents right to request that the school evaluate their child to determine the presence of a disability at any time. If parents have questions about specific screenings, they may contact the building principal, school psychologist, or the Director of Special Education, Brendan Brown.
