• Hello ! Welcome to Hellgate Health Office.

    Hellgate Elementary Health Information.

Hello!  My name is Brayden Byrne and I serve as the school nurse for Hellgate Elementary and Middle School. I was born and raised in Missoula and received my degree in nursing at the University of Portland. After working in Portland as a float pool nurse and getting experience on most adult inpatient units throughout the hospital I decided to return home. My love of nursing and health care first began through volunteering at at a Camp for children with cancer. I just finished my 9th year of volunteering with this organization.  This experience has helped me to discern nursing as a career but has also helped me identify pediatrics as the patient population I want to serve. I am excited to serve in this new role as a school nurse and look forward to getting to know you and your children.

When I am not at school, I am an avid hunter, fly fishermen, and outdoorsmen. I will almost always have my black lab Caddis by my side who also likes to go on adventures.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any concerns you may have regarding your child’s health. My goal is to help your children feel safe and stay healthy while they are at school.

Let’s have a fun, safe, and healthy school year!

Hello Hellgate students and families!  My name is Lou Garman and I’m excited to be part of Hellgate Elementary and Middle School nursing staff!  I have been a nurse for 13 years and received my nursing degree from our own University of Montana (Go Griz!).  I started my career as a rehab nurse and from there transitioned to home health and then hospice.  Hospice is where I have spent the last 8 years, and while it will always be near and dear to my heart, it also carries a heavy emotional burden.  So when the opportunity to join Hellgate as a school nurse presented itself, I knew it would be just the right medicine!  Hearing the student’s laughter every day and seeing them smile again after they’ve been hurt has filled my heart back up to full!

In addition to being a nurse, I am also a health coach, and I’m in the process of getting my functional nutrition certification.    When I’m not working, I am a mom to two amazing boys that keep my husband and me running at full speed!  We are both born-and-raised-Montanans’, so naturally, we can often be found camping, riding dirt bikes, hiking, fishing and swimming in the lake, and relaxing at our family cabin in Lincoln.  I have also taken up a new hobby as “that” sports mom/cheerleader for wrestling, baseball, basketball, and football!  And I will ALWAYS seek out any Hellgate students to cheer on that I may see along the way, so be warned!

I look forward to getting to know all the Hellgate students and families better, so if you ever see me please feel free to say hi, and of course, always reach out if you ever have any health related questions or concerns.

    All the best,

    Lou Garman, RN
