• Homework Policies

Every Thursday I will send home a laminated folder called the Thursday Envelope. Inside you will find all of the important information from the school. In the other pocket, you will find the weekly homework. Eventually, this will include a levelized reader from the reading series, as well as a Readwell book. If you are able to take 20 minutes each night and read one of the books this will be very helpful. Daily practice makes for strong readers. I will also send home a weekly newsletter, informing you about the subjects we are learning about. At the bottom, you will find a list of sight words. Please help your child learn these sight words. Unfortunately, less than 50% of words can be sounded out. The rest must simply be memorized. Any help from home is appreciated. Spelling tests will begin within the 3rd week, and will also be included as homework in "the Thursday Envelope"

Homework is a constructive tool in the teaching/learning process when geared to the needs and abilities of students.  Purposeful assignments not only enhance student achievement, but also develop self-discipline and associated good working habits.  As an extension of the classroom, homework must be planned and organized, must be viewed as purposeful to the students, and should be evaluated and returned to students in a timely manner.

Teachers may give homework to students to aid in the students educational development.  Homework should be an application or an adaptation of a classroom experience, and should not be assigned for disciplinary purposes.
