Meet the Teacher:
I am excited to welcome you to our school as I begin my 16th year at Hellgate Elementary. Building #2 is the home of nine kindergarten classrooms and we work closely as a kindergarten team. This school is amazing, and I feel that it is a privilege to be part of your child’s learning journey. My goals for this year include helping your child develop a love for school, creating a strong interest in lifelong learning, and encouraging the children to work together as a classroom community.
This school year will be my 19th year of teaching. I started my career teaching kindergarten for three years in Great Falls. I then moved to Missoula where I taught fourth grade for two years at Hellgate Elementary before returning to kindergarten. I love my job and I am so excited about the endless possibilities of teaching and learning right along with my students.
I received my teaching degree at Rocky Mountain College in Billings. While working on my degree, I took a year away from school to travel to 13 different countries with the organization Up With People. In June 2010, I earned a Master of Science in Science Education (MSSE) degree from Montana State University.
My heart is in the classroom. As I travel or have new experiences, I am always thinking about how I can take these experiences back to my classroom and strengthen my teaching. Away from the classroom, I enjoy cooking, reading, skiing, swimming, and spending time with my family. I am married to John Wasem who is originally from the “Buckeye State” (Ohio). We met in Italy and he moved to Montana where he is employed at St. Patrick’s Hospital. We have a very energetic seven year old son named Elliott and sweet four year old daughter named Paisley. John and I love being parents and enjoy calling Missoula, Montana our home.
